Catching Up

Well, I don't really have any huge exciting stories to share here, but I do have a couple little things... something is better than nothing right?

I went out with my mom for my very first Black Friday shopping experience. I think it went pretty well, we didn't have any big ticket items we were looking for, not 97" plasma tvs for $2.99 or anything like that, and we completely avoided Walmart (thank you sweet tiny baby Jesus for that early Christmas miracle), so all in all we had a pretty easy time. I ended up with a huge king size blanket from Kohls for $19.99, House dvds seasons 1-4 for Kevin for $12.99/each, boots for myself from JcPenneys, regular price $90, on sale for $29.99, a bunch of Christmas/holiday shirts from Old Navy $5. I also know what all my Christmas presents are (from my mom), and lets just say I am very excited for Christmas morning!

I put in my application and resume for a new job the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and I am still waiting to hear back from the recruiter. Apparently it was a very popular posting, but I think if I get an interview I could do pretty well. Please send some good vibes this way! I really could use the job...

I have a friend in my new(ish) city! It is Kevin's friend's wife, Kristin. We had a movie date last week and I really like her. It is so nice to have a girlfriend around. I hope we can get together soon!

Kevin has had a sudden change of heart about babies and agreed that we can start trying! To have a baby! Seriously! Apparently he was talking to a guy at work who is only a few years older than us with 2 little ones, and he said they really aren't as expensive as you think... its just little bits at a time. I want to send this person the best Christmas present ever! Seriously.

Please Mr. Postman

I have been having the most excellent luck with my mail lately. RSVPs are slowly trickling in, including the ones that have been delivered to wrong addresses. But that is not what I am talking about. I have been ordering things online, wonderful wedding things, and they are finally starting to arrive.

Friday I got the handkerchiefs I ordered. And the brooch. Then got my personalized napkins (and yes, I know how ridiculous this is, and yes I know they will be thrown out, but they are flippin' adorable and I need need needed them). And my lovely VistaPrint business cards with my new contact info on them, including email, cell and mailing address (and my new last name - squee!). And the cutest little knit hat for the baby shower on Sunday.

Then yesterday, the best thing, the lovely unity candle holder that I ordered. I looooove ordering things online. When they show up, it is like Christmas. Best of all, I can go shopping any time, day or night, even at work (although this is not recommended). Thank heavens for internet shopping!

"I like your shoes!"

If you are ever with me, you'd better hope I'm not at a bar when I start telling people I like there shoes. It's a sure-fire signal I am d-runk.

On unfortunate 21st birthday, I was forced to drink mass amounts of booze (seriously...I wasn't buying the drinks...others were practically pouring them down my throat). So, ya know, after beginning the evening with a shot of tequila, followed by a Long Island iced tea, double fisted with a Jack&coke, more tequila, the discovery of red headed sluts, and a girl standing on a bar pouring pucker directly into my mouth....I'd had enough.

There is not much I remember about this birthday (for obvious reasons) but some of the things I do remember are telling people that I liked their shoes.

Shoe victim #1 - they were white sandals and looked amazingly high. I was washing my hands when I said it. Turns out, I was oblivious...she was puking into the sink next to me, and I was trying to compliment her on her stylish footwear

Shoe victim #2 - After I was pulled apart from my ex bf (who I had broken up with the day before, but who still wanted to come out) while we were crying in the middle of the dance floor, my friends decided that maybe we should grab something to eat before we got in their car (quick recap of the rules - #1 NO PUKING IN THE CAR #2 - NO PEEING IN THE CAR....they double-checked that I could remember said rules several times every hour). We were walking to the local drunk stop on the way (i stumbled there, blaming the sidewalk's unevenness for the reason I couldn't walk straight) when I saw them - the most beautiful pink strappy Barbie sandals! I had to tell her I liked them...but she was across the street....on her cell phone...yelling at someone...in Spanish. No bother. I YELLED across the street, "HEY I LIKE YOUR SHOES!" My friends were appalled. She put down her cell phone, looked at her feet and yelled back, "THANKS!" and then continued on her way.

See...we shoe lovers always appreciate a compliment!

Now I am thinking of getting these to wear under my wedding dress...you know, in case any guests start to act up:

Just kidding!!! But seriously, take a look at some of these shoes...apparently they are all the rage in Japan.

I don't know how you could NOT break an ankle in these shoes...but they look pretty cool. Cool enough that I want to give them a try, just to see if I could do it.

Shopping last night...

...was not the success that one might have hoped for. We didn't end up getting ANYTHING! Kara tried on about a million things, pretty much whatever I had grabbed throughout the different stores, but we didn't end up finding the one. There was a nice dress at JcPenney's that I think was a contender, but we never ended up going back to check it out again. I guess this will be a sloooow transformation of her wardrobe.

At least we learned one thing last night - Kara has NO concept of her size, as she kept telling me to get mediums at NY&Co and they looked about 2 sizes too big on her. But wouldn't try on other sizes. We did find some cute things there, but since my shower is in 9 days, we were really looking for things to wear to that and we didn't find anything for that. Which is kinda stinky as my other two friends/bridesmaids that are going are super-cute dressers and will look cuter than me at my own shower. Crap!

The happy ending to it all was that at this particular mall, there is a Melting Pot (fondue restaurant) and we ended the evening with some yummy melty chocolate and some yummy-scrumbos dippers. And this is why my rear end doesn't fit into my beautiful wedding dress. C'mon Meagan, get some self-control!!

Reading Fiend

Last night I finished yet another book!! This one was called "It Had to Be You" by Sarah Webb, about 3 friends in a fictional Irish village. I really enjoyed it and it was an easy read (must have been, I just started it on Sunday). So that brings me to 3 books in the last 10 days. Watch out!

Today I had a one-on-one with my boss, as it has been about 6 months since I started this job. Seeing as tho I am easily distracted - you know, theknot, blogging, wedding nonsense - I was a little nervy. Actually, whenever I have to meet with a boss I am nervy. I know I have been a little distracted here lately, but that is not to say I am a bad employee. Just have a short attention span, and need something to keep me interested. BUT the point....

My boss <3's me. And told me she thinks I've been doing "an amazing job" and she got "nothing but great comments from others about what an improvement I am and how helpful"....score one, Meagan! At my old job, my boss and I were pretty tight and were friendly but this one is a little more distant, so I wasn't entirely sure what she had been thinking. So this was a wonderful compliment.

Tonight I am hanging out with Kara, my oldest friend. We have know each other since kindergarten - my mom has a home video of me telling her about my first day of school and she asks "Who did you sit with on the bus?" and I said "Today I sat with Julianne but tomorrow I am going to sit with my new friend Kara"... and thus the friendship was born. Its been tougher getting together lately, me with my jobs and her with her bf, but we are usually able to get together once a week or so. Which I love. Today, we are going to look for outfits for my shower - its only 10 days from today!!! For my mother-in-law and her friends and family.

Most of them live about an hour from where I do, and its easier for them to have one out that way. Best part - its at a place called Hawley's Lumberyard, which is actually a really nice restaurant (we've been there before) inside a renovated barn that's been there for approx 100 years. So my friends got the invites and were like, "Um, you shower is in a Lumberyard?!" - Kevin is from the country, so you never really know right? Too funny!!

Anyhow, shower outfits! I need something cute and fall-ish, and Kara is trying to revamp her wardrobe, one piece at a time. Let's see how it goes!
